Join us for our excursion to the snow - by steam train, of course. Forget the car for a relaxed day out with family and friends aboard The Vintage Train.

Settle back in your compartment aboard the train and before long, Melbourne will be lost in a trail of steam and smoke as we journey into the fertile farming district of the Latrobe Valley.

The locomotive will be working hard as we climb through the green Gippsland hills around Bunyip and Longwarry before we make our first stop at Moe. Here, passengers change to comfortable road coaches for the ride through scenic mountain forests to either the snowfields of Mount Saint Gwinear or the warmth of a hotel lunch beside an open fire and Walhalla tour.

Passengers for the PowerWorks tour or rail only option continue on the train to Traralgon.

Mount Saint Gwinear
At Mount Saint Gwinear, explore the alpine forests with their unique fauna and crisp mountain air as you wander through the snow. Hire of cross country skis and toboggans is available. Hot and cold snacks and drinks are available at the ski centre or bring your own picnic hamper and utilise the BBQ’s provided.

On Train Service
Our on-train facilities include kiosks, which stock a wide range of light refreshments, sandwiches, souvenirs and hot and cold drinks. A licensed bar will also be open serving a range of wine, beers and spirits. Our courteous train officers will be on hand throughout the journey to provide any assistance to ensure an enjoyable and safe day.

Lunch and explore Walhalla
For those preferring warmer surroundings, take the option of lunch at Walhalla Miner’s Café or the cosy Erica Hotel with its warm and friendly atmosphere (please indicate your preference)

After lunch, there is time to explore the historic treasures of Walhalla. The famous ‘Long Tunnel Extended’ gold mind offers underground tours, visit the many historic buildings, climb to the cricket ground carved high in the surround hills, all within walking distance of this unique mountain township.

It is also possible to ride the historic narrow gauge railway that clings to the side of the Stringers Creek valley from Walhalla. A shuttle bus is provided for passengers having lunch at Walhalla, while Erica Hotel patrons may travel on this railway on their way to Walhalla; fares payable on the day. Coaches return to Walhalla following the ride.

PowerWorks Tour
Take a tour into the heart of the brown coal fired power stations and coal mines. These tours offer a unique view into power generation in Victoria. To complement the tour, you can enjoy a two course lunch at the PowerWorks centre before being returned to Traralgon.

Rail Only
Choose to spend the afternoon in Traralgon, perhaps to enjoy a meal in a local Hotel or Café.

Departure from our mountain locations is at 4.00pm to ensure on time train departure from Moe at 5.00pm. Once again, relax on the train as our locomotive works hard heading west on a course for home. If you wish for a little more travelling comfort, choose the air-con option of cloth seating in an air conditioned (and heated) carriage.

Subject to change, please ring Steamrail a few days before the tour to confirm timetable and platform departure number.
