Steamrail Victoria is a Voluntary Not-For-Profit organisation dedicated to the restoration and operation of vintage steam, diesel and electric locomotives and carriages. We operate all over the Victorian broad gauge network offering a variety of tours for all tastes. Steamrail runs regular day and occasional weekend tours to interesting and popular destinations.

Steamrail Victoria has the largest fleet of preserved rollingstock in Victoria. We currently have a fleet of five operating steam locomotives, six operating heritage diesels and one electric locomotive, as well as a fleet of electric suburban red rattlers. The Steamrail carriage fleet comprises of some forty vehicles, including sitting, sleeping and specialist carriages. These vehicles date back to the turn of the century and feature comfortable seating, varnished wood panelling and opening windows. Air conditioned vehicles are also available for charter.

Charter Options

Steamrail Victoria can organise heritage trains tailored to suit any event. We cater for groups ranging in size from 50 people all the way up to 1,000. We have run everything from half day suburban steam shuttles for local traders to moving several hundred school children to regional centers to multi-day sleeping berth trains covering thousands of kilometers. No job is too big, no job is too small.

Carriages

Steamrail Victoria has a wide selection of vehicle to choose from. They range from timber bodied vehicles built in the early 1900s right up to modern, steel bodied, air conditioned carriages. Click here to see the list of Operational Carriages that Steamrail has.

RS234 - Moorabool Club Car

Steamrail Victoria has club car Moorabool available for charter on most of our regular tours. Moorabool is fitted with a servery that includes two refrigerators, a microwave oven, instant hot water service and sound system with CD stacker. It is perfect for small groups (up to 40 people), parties or just for a little privacy on one of our many outings. Destinations

Steamrail has operated trains throughout Victoria and into southern New South Wales. A map of the railway network is available here .
The chartering of trains during 2008 is possible, however, destination availability will be affected by circumstances beyond our control.

Steamrail Victoria Inc. is a Not-For-Profit voluntary organisation that restores and operates various examples of Victorian Railway rolling stock. The operation of these vehicles is made possible with the co-operation of the Victrack, The Department of Infrastructure and V/Line Passenger Pty Ltd.
